Wolves Show Promise Despite Fall to No 1 Foro Italico

The AUR Wolves fell 71-49 to top-ranked Foro Italico on Tuesday night, but the flashes of offensive potential suggest their spring campaign is only just beginning. New player Travis Finley was the star of the team scoring 21 points. 

Stepping back onto the hardwood at 10pm on a cold Roman night to resume their season, the Wolves looked to move past a 2-3 start from the fall with a refreshed lineup featuring new arrivals like Finley.

Despite this new energy, Foro Italico, who are top of the league table wasted no time asserting their power, unleashing a relentless full-court press that turned early defensive grit into a lead they would never surrender. 

The opening minutes were a physical struggle as both teams fought for rhythm, but once Foro Italico settled in they showcased a balanced attack from both inside and outside the arc.

AUR found some life by knocking down a few timely threes to stay within striking distance, yet the sheer speed of the opponent's fast break pushed the halftime deficit to 14 points. By the end of the third quarter that gap had grown to 25, leaving the Wolves staring down a nearly impossible task.

Finley took over the game towards the end, putting on a scoring clinic that breathed life back into the AUR bench. He was a force as he attacked the rim, racking up 21 points in a defiant individual performance that cut through the defense with ease. 

While the early damage was too great to overcome, the offensive rhythm found in the closing minutes provides a strong foundation for the Wolves as they move forward into the spring season.
