Being a student in Rome during football season is incredible, but when the Super Bowl rolls around, watching the NFL live suddenly gets complicated. Between the time difference, limited TV access, and packed bars, finding the right spot takes some trial and error. After asking around and checking places ourselves, here’s an honest breakdown of the main options us students talk about.

Scholars, located at Via del Plebiscito, 101B, 00186 Roma RM, is the most well-known choice. It’s large, loud, and usually packed with students, especially on weekends. There are multiple big screens, which makes it one of the safest bets if you want to actually see the game without squinting. The downside is the crowd which can feel chaotic, and getting a seat isn’t guaranteed. That said, it is confirmed open and consistently shows games, so it’s reliable.

La Boticella, located at Via di Tor Millina, 32, is almost the opposite experience. It’s a smaller, more traditional sports bar with a very friendly atmosphere. There’s usually one large TV, and the bartender is known for being especially welcoming, and a Steelers fan, which adds some character. You’ll still find students there, but it’s far less overwhelming than Scholars. It’s also confirmed open, making it a solid low-key option.

Abbey Theatre, located at V. del Governo Vecchio, 51/52/53, 00186 Roma RM, sits nicely in the middle. It’s not massive, but not cramped either. Students tend to go here, and there are a few smaller TVs spread around the bar. It’s a good compromise if you want a social environment without the full chaos of Scholars.

The Basement (Prati), located on Via Properzio, is a cozy, downstairs sports bar that’s on the smaller side, so getting there early is key if you want a table, there’s very limited standing room. It’s a great spot for watching games on their single large central TV while enjoying cocktails or a strong selection of Italian craft beers, all in a relaxed, brick-ceiling, couch-seating vibe.

Finally, the most reliable option of all: watching from home. With DAZN’s NFL Game Pass, you don’t have to worry about crowds, tiny screens, or missing games. Given the Roman lifestyle and late kickoff times, this often ends up being the easiest choice, especially for primetime games like the Super Bowl.

If you want atmosphere and big screens, go to Scholars. If you want a calmer, friendlier bar, La Boticella is a great pick. If you want balance, Abbey Theatre works well. And if you want certainty, DAZN from home never disappoints.
